Costar Video Designs System for Gas Monkey Garage in Dallas Texas, host of popular Fast N’ Loud TV series.
Coppell, Texas – July 25, 2013 – Costar Video Systems proudly announced the completion of a state of the art video surveillance system designed for Gas Monkey Garage.
Gas Monkey Garage, an auto restoration shop in Dallas, Texas, is home to the popular reality TV series Fast N’ Loud which airs on the Discovery Channel. The garage is run by head monkeys; motor mastermind Richard Rawlings and mechanical prodigy Aaron Kaufmann. Each episode of Fast N’ Loud showcases these two monkeys searching far and wide across Texas and its’ surrounding states for forgotten and abandoned classic cars to buy and restore at the garage.
Since the show started in 2012, the garage is constantly buzzing with activity from the camera and production crew filming footage for the show. After successful first and second seasons the show continued to grow in popularity, bringing many fans to the Dallas area to for tours of the garage or a chance to meet Richard and Aaron in person. The front of the garage was transformed into a merchandise shop where fans can buy Gas Monkey gear. With the number of fans stopping by increasing, monitoring the merchandise shop and the perimeter of the garage became a concern.
During their on-the-road adventures to find the perfect cars for their restoration projects, Richard and Aaron needed a way to keep an eye on the crew and everything going on back at the garage. They decided that installing a security surveillance system was necessary to protect all the “blood, sweat and beers” being put into Gas Monkey Garage.
Costar Video Systems designed a complete high definition security surveillance system for Gas Monkey Garage. A wide variety of network cameras were installed throughout the garage to capture high-definition video from outside in the parking lot to inside the merchandise shop and the garage, where all the monkeying around happens. “Gas Monkey Garage presented unusual challenges, from covering a fully functional restoration garage, overzealous fans touring the facility, as well as retail shopping space all within the same location,” said Mike Rose, VP of Sales for Costar Video “ We were able to provide a solution that covered the entire facility and address all the requirements of Richard and his team”. All of the network cameras installed are 2 to 5 mega pixel resolution and have unique features for their application and placement. For example, a height strip camera was placed at the front door to monitor traffic and bullet cameras with IP66 weatherproof rating were placed outside to monitor the parking lot and provide perimeter protection.
These network cameras send video to a 16 channel iNEX network video recorder. The iNEX recorder provides high quality recording of up to 5 mega pixel resolution that can be monitored in real-time or played back. The iNEX recorder has no annual per camera licensing fees and is flexible for system expansion in the future. The Gas Monkey Garage system is monitored using the iNEX User Interface, allowing video management features such as simplified user management, advanced reference mapping and logical camera grouping.
The complete system provides Gas Monkey Garage with both live and recorded video to accommodate their various surveillance requirements. The system can be monitored anytime, anywhere thanks to the Costar mobile application which gives Richard and Aaron the ability to view real-time or played back video from their iPhones and iPads while on the road.
